An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Derby City Council’s progressive Digital Services team as a Web Application Developer, where you can take the lead in transforming how our council delivers services to the community and colleagues.

If you thrive on building sophisticated Power Apps, automating workflows with Power Automate, integrating systems, and unlocking insights with Power BI, this is the role for you. This role is pivotal in delivering and enhancing our processes - ensuring they meet evolving service needs and regulatory requirements.

You’ll collaborate with service leads, project managers, technical teams, and stakeholders to gather requirements, manage expectations, and deliver tailored solutions. The role supports cross-departmental initiatives such as reporting, procurement, and performance tracking, and will help drive the council’s digital transformation agenda.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain Power Apps, Power Automate flows, Power BI and SharePoint integrations.
• Provide technical and administrative support in the delivery of IT-related projects and web-based solutions.
• Liaise with service areas, users, third-party suppliers, and other web officers to deliver solutions in line with business requirements.
• Implement workflows based on both schedule-driven and persona-driven models.
• Support testing, deployment, and user onboarding processes, including managing feedback loops, iterative improvements and ensuring compliance with regulations.
• Provide technical documentation and training materials for stakeholders.
• Carry out system security maintenance tasks, including patching and user management.
• Comply with the Council’s policies, procedures, and Data Protection Act requirements.

Person Specification

Essential Skills and Experience:

• Evidence you have proven experience with Microsoft Power Platform (Power BI, Power Apps, Power Automate, SharePoint).
• Experience of web technologies such as .Net, MVC, OOP languages, CMS, or the Microsoft stack.
• Understanding of quality assurance, UX, CX, and end-to-end service provision.
• Ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Experience managing multiple concurrent projects and deadlines.
• Good level of interpersonal skills and an effective approach to problem solving.
