Virtual Propulsion Engineer - Power Electronics & High Voltage Systems - General Motors (GM)
Software Engineer
Lead advanced analysis and validation of power electronics and high‑voltage bus systems for electrified propulsion, using simulation, test correlation, and embedded software to improve efficiency, cost, and robustness of traction inverters.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct detailed performance and thermal analysis of power electronics components and high‑voltage bus architectures for electric propulsion.
- Develop and execute simulation models (MATLAB/Simulink) and correlate results with hardware test data to validate design assumptions.
- Define and implement validation plans, test procedures, and failure‑mode analyses for traction inverters and related hardware.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to optimize component sizing, cost, and efficiency while ensuring compliance with safety standards.
- Provide technical guidance and documentation for design reviews, design‑for‑manufacturability, and reliability improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or higher in Electrical Engineering, Power Electronics, or a related field with 5+ years of experience in high‑voltage system design.
- Proficiency in power electronics design, including traction inverters, converters, and HV bus layout.
- Strong hands‑on experience with simulation tools (MATLAB/Simulink) and test‑correlation methodologies.
- Programming skills in Embedded C/C++ for hardware‑in‑the‑loop testing and control algorithm development.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical analyses, produce robust validation documentation, and work effectively in multidisciplinary teams.
