What You'll Do

Epic Games is looking for a talented and experienced Gameplay AI Engineer to join our Unreal Engine team. In this role, you will be instrumental in the design, development, and optimization of AI systems within Unreal Engine 5. You will work closely with other engineers, designers, and artists to create cutting-edge AI solutions that empower developers to build immersive and dynamic game worlds. Your expertise will directly impact the capabilities of the engine, shaping the future of AI in games across various genres and platforms.

In this role, you will:

• Design, implement, and optimize AI systems and tools within Unreal Engine 5.
• Collaborate with gameplay programmers, designers, and artists to integrate AI features and ensure a cohesive player experience.
• Develop and maintain AI behaviors, decision-making processes, pathfinding, and navigation systems.
• Focus on building performant and scalable AI solutions for various game genres, including multiplayer environments.
• Work on advanced AI features such as animation integration, inverse kinematics (IK), and physics-based simulations.
• Profile and optimize AI code for performance and memory usage across multiple platforms.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in AI and game development, researching and prototyping new technologies.

What we're looking for

• Strong proficiency in C++ and experience with large-scale software development.
• Extensive experience in AI development for games, with a deep understanding of common AI algorithms and techniques.
• Demonstrated experience working with Unreal Engine 4 or 5, specifically with its AI framework (e.g., Behavior Trees, EQS, Navigation Mesh).
• Experience with developing AI for multiplayer games and understanding of networking considerations for AI.
• Experience with animation systems, IK, and physics simulations as they relate to AI.
• Excellent problem-solving, debugging, and optimization skills.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• A passion for games and a deep understanding of what makes compelling AI interactions.
