We are seeking a Transportation Tolling and ITS Engineering Intern to join our team in Atlanta, GA.
AtkinsRéalis is seeking an individual interested in Transportation Tolling and ITS Engineering to join our team supporting the State Road and Tollway Authority (SRTA) General Engineering Contract (GEC) Program in a part-time capacity. This role offers a fantastic opportunity to participate in all stages of a project's life cycle and gain exposure to tolling and ITS technologies, infrastructure, and operations. The position will be based at SRTA's downtown office in Atlanta, Georgia, serving as an extension of the client's staff.
This role will support the AtkinsRéalis GEC Program Director for the client's'Engineering Group, and will work with AtkinsRéalis staff and other consultants, as well as provide support to the client's staff, on numerous types of design/construction and systems projects related primarily to express lanes.
Your role
- This position will require a minimum of 20 hours per week. This role has core in-person days and hours: Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday 8:30 am - 5:30 pm. A minimum of 12 hours per week is required in person. Remote work on Fridays may be considered on a case by case basis with approval from the Program Director.
- Apply knowledge of toll systems, toll operations, and Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) technologies to support transportation planning, engineering, and operational initiatives, project activities, and prepare deliverables.
- Apply general planning, operational, and engineering principles to solve toll-related challenges.
- Assist in the design and development of tolling concepts, including requirements analysis, operational concepts, specifications, system implementation, and testing.
- Work within small, project-oriented, multidisciplinary teams of tolling professionals.
- Participate in client meetings, design reviews, operational discussions, and project delivery activities.
- Collaborate with SRTA Engineering, Project Management Office (PMO), Operations, Communications, and Legal teams.
- Serve as an extension of client staff, working closely with agency personnel on a daily basis.
- Establish and maintain records and files of technical data and project documents.
About you
- EXPERIENCE: No experience is generally required if accepted into a Bachelor's degree program in a related technical field
- EDUCATION: Must have a GPA of 3.0 and completed 36 hours towards a civil, mechanical, or industrial and systems engineering degree from an ABET accredited program by the start of the internship (Spring 2027)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Teams, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
- Strong technical writing and verbal presentation communication skills.
