Junior‑to‑mid level Transportation Data Scientist leveraging Python, machine learning, and GIS to analyze traffic data, develop predictive models, and support FHWA research on safety, mobility, and environmental impacts.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Collect, clean, and preprocess large transportation datasets using Python and SQL.
- Develop and validate machine learning models to predict traffic flow, incident risk, and environmental metrics.
- Integrate GIS tools to visualize spatial patterns and support decision‑making.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to translate analytical insights into actionable recommendations for FHWA projects.
- Document methodologies, produce technical reports, and present findings to stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Transportation Engineering, or related field.
- Proficiency in Python (pandas, scikit‑learn, GeoPandas) and SQL.
- Experience with machine learning pipelines and model deployment.
- Knowledge of GIS concepts and spatial analysis.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work in a collaborative research environment.
