Trainee Stairlift / Platform Lift Engineer - Hanover Lift Services Ltd (trading as Hanover Lifts)

Overview

Hanover Lifts is looking for a practical, friendly and motivated individual to train as a Stairlift and Platform Lift Engineer.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone with transferable mechanical, electrical or practical skills who is looking to retrain and build a long-term engineering career. Previous lift experience is not essential, as full training and a structured NVQ pathway will be provided.

You will begin by learning to service, repair and install stairlifts, progressing to through-floor and platform lifts as your knowledge and confidence develop. Our directors have hands-on engineering backgrounds, so you will be supported by people who understand the role and the challenges involved.

• Is practical, hands-on and able to use common sense to solve problems
• Has transferable mechanical, electrical, engineering or maintenance skills
• Is keen to learn and committed to completing relevant NVQ qualifications
• Is friendly, patient and professional, as you will regularly work in the homes of elderly and vulnerable customers
• Can communicate clearly and provide reassurance when explaining work
• Is reliable, organised and able to work independently
• Takes pride in delivering safe, high-quality work
• Is willing to travel across the Southwest of England
• Can participate in an on-call rota, including some evenings and weekends, for which enhanced payments will be made

An NVQ Level 2 or relevant experience would be an advantage, but we will consider applicants from other practical or technical backgrounds who demonstrate the right attitude and willingness to learn.

The role

• Install, service and repair stairlifts across the Southwest
• Learn to work on through-floor and platform lifts
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical and electrical faults
• Carry out routine inspections and safety checks
• Potentially undertake site surveys and assessments as your experience develops
• Deliver a friendly, professional service in customers’ homes and businesses
• Keep accurate records of work completed

Normal working hours are 8am–5pm, Monday to Friday. You will also join an on-call rota covering some evenings and weekends, with enhanced pay, alongside additional overtime opportunities.
