Software Engineer
Part‑time Traffic Technology Data Administrator responsible for maintaining, validating and integrating asset data from roadside monitoring systems, using SQL, Python and GIS tools while supporting the Traffic Scotland infrastructure.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain and update the central asset database for roadside monitoring and control equipment.
- Validate, cleanse and integrate data from multiple sources, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Develop and run SQL queries and Python scripts to extract, transform and load (ETL) data for reporting and analysis.
- Produce GIS‑based visualisations and maps to support operational decision‑making.
- Collaborate with the Traffic Scotland team to troubleshoot data issues and support system upgrades.
- Participate in a shared on‑site rota, providing coverage across all days of the week.
Requirements
- Proven experience with relational databases and SQL query development.
- Strong scripting skills in Python for data manipulation and automation.
- Familiarity with GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS) and spatial data handling.
- Understanding of traffic management or transportation infrastructure data is preferred.
- Ability to work on‑site in a hybrid model and adapt to a rotating schedule.
