We are currently seeking a Thermal System Engineer to join our dynamic team in Piove di Sacco (PD), Italy
Vertiv is seeking an experienced thermal engineer to support the development with global thermal system modeling tools. In this role, you will be working with a diverse team of engineers in creating and maintaining thermodynamic models of Vertiv’s thermal products to support the global Sales Application and Design teams
What kind of work will you be doing?
- Write accurate yet fast solving mathematical models of HVAC components such as evaporators, condensers, compressors, fluid connections, fans, pumps, etc., using physics-based equations and diagrams
- Code efficient and stable algorithms to simulate performance of single/multi-circuit HVAC systems such as CRAC chilled-water, air-cooled or water-cooled chiller, pumped refrigeration systems etc.
- Develop and maintain a library of heat transfer and pressure drop correlations for single and 2-phase refrigerant flows
- Review published literature for latest methods and correlations and implement them in code
- Investigate convergence and accuracy issues in thermodynamic models and take corrective actions
- Collaborate with Control Eng. to implement the correct unit’s control SW on system simulation tools
- Write detailed test plans for system testing to obtain data for model validation
- Fine tune and calibrate thermal models against lab data following a scientific approach
- Create detailed project plans and lead the assigned projects to completion
- Perform complex data analysis, properly document results, and prepare presentations
What will make you successful?
- MS Degree in mechanical, energy engineering or related science to thermodynamics.
- 5+ years of experience in developing thermal models and heat transfer analysis of commercial HVAC systems and components
- Strong background in single and two-phase fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and thermodynamics
- Deep understanding of the working of HVAC system, its control managements and its components through extensive work experience
- Deep understanding of the chilled water plant issues and their basic systems controls
- Strong coding and unit-testing skills using modern object-oriented programming languages like Cadence, FlowNex, MathLAB Simulink, FloMaster, Simscale
