Casual Technical Officer supporting tip‑tilt and thermal systems for the TOLIMAN space telescope, applying optics, mechatronics, electronics, spacecraft engineering and data analysis skills in a university research environment.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the design, integration, and testing of tip‑tilt and thermal control hardware for the TOLIMAN space telescope.
- Support precision optics alignment and calibration activities to meet astrometric measurement requirements.
- Develop and execute test procedures for mechatronic and electronic subsystems, documenting results and recommending improvements.
- Collaborate with spacecraft engineering teams to ensure subsystem compatibility and compliance with mission specifications.
- Process and analyse experimental data using Python and related data‑analysis tools to validate system performance.
Requirements
- Advanced undergraduate, final‑year student, Master’s student, early‑career engineer or technician with a background in optics, mechatronics, electronics, or aerospace engineering.
- Hands‑on experience with precision mechanical systems, thermal control hardware, or spacecraft subsystems.
- Proficiency in Python for data processing and basic scripting.
- Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work in a collaborative research environment.
- Eligibility to work in Australia and availability to start ASAP on a casual basis.
