Systems Architect & Cybersecurity Lead - University of British Columbia

Key Responsibilities

• Design and govern enterprise‑wide architecture for cloud (AWS/Azure) and on‑premise environments, aligning with strategic goals and compliance requirements.
• Develop and enforce cybersecurity policies, threat‑modeling, and incident‑response processes to protect research and academic data.
• Lead DevOps initiatives, implementing CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration (Kubernetes), and Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible).
• Collaborate with faculty, research groups, and IT teams to translate technical requirements into secure, scalable solutions.
• Mentor and guide technical staff, conduct security assessments, and oversee vulnerability management and remediation.

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience in systems architecture, cloud platforms, and cybersecurity leadership.
• Strong knowledge of network security, IAM, SIEM, and compliance frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST).
• Proficiency with DevOps tools and IaC technologies such as Terraform, Ansible, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Hands‑on scripting/programming experience, preferably Python, for automation and security tooling.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with a track record of guiding cross‑functional teams.
