Systems Engineer
Senior System Engineer responsible for designing, deploying, and maintaining mainframe environments using z/OS, COBOL, CICS, and DB2, ensuring high availability and performance for mission‑critical applications.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and support mainframe solutions on z/OS platforms, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
- Develop and maintain COBOL applications, including code reviews, unit testing, and performance tuning.
- Configure and manage CICS transaction environments, including transaction routing, security, and monitoring.
- Administer DB2 databases, performing data migration, backup/restore, and query optimization.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate mainframe services with modern cloud or hybrid infrastructures.
- Document system architecture, procedures, and troubleshooting guides for internal use.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in mainframe administration and application development.
- Strong proficiency in COBOL, CICS, DB2, and z/OS operating systems.
- Experience with performance monitoring tools (e.g., IBM OMEGAMON, CA-Health) and scripting (Bash, Python).
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently in a fast‑paced environment.
- Good communication skills in German and English, with a focus on technical documentation.
