Systems Engineer
System Administrator role supporting a high‑performance defence platform, responsible for Windows/Linux server management, virtualization, network security, and automation using PowerShell and scripting in a mission‑critical environment.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain Windows and Linux servers, ensuring high availability and performance for defence systems.
- Manage VMware virtual infrastructure, including provisioning, monitoring, and troubleshooting virtual machines.
- Implement and enforce security hardening standards, patch management, and compliance with defence security policies.
- Develop and maintain PowerShell and Bash scripts to automate routine tasks, configuration management, and reporting.
- Provide network administration support, including firewall rules, VPN configuration, and troubleshooting connectivity issues.
- Collaborate with engineering and operations teams to resolve incidents, perform root‑cause analysis, and improve system reliability.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience in systems administration for Windows Server and Linux environments.
- Strong hands‑on experience with VMware vSphere or similar virtualization platforms.
- Proficiency in PowerShell and Bash scripting for automation and configuration management.
- Solid understanding of network protocols, firewalls, VPNs, and security hardening practices.
- Active Australian citizenship and ability to obtain Positive Vetting security clearance.
