Systems Engineer
Lead and maintain mission‑critical IT infrastructure for a National Guard unit, ensuring high availability, security, and compliance across Windows and Linux environments using virtualization and advanced scripting.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day‑to‑day operations of Windows Server and Linux systems, ensuring 99.9% uptime for critical applications.
- Design, implement, and manage virtualized environments (VMware/Hyper‑V) to optimize resource utilization.
- Configure and maintain network infrastructure, including firewalls, routers, and VPNs, to support secure remote access.
- Develop and maintain PowerShell and Bash scripts for automation of routine tasks and system monitoring.
- Implement security controls, perform vulnerability assessments, and enforce compliance with federal IT standards.
- Provide technical guidance and training to junior staff and end‑users on best practices and troubleshooting.
Requirements
- Minimum 5 years of experience in systems administration for Windows and Linux platforms.
- Proficiency with virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper‑V) and network configuration.
- Strong scripting skills in PowerShell and Bash.
- Knowledge of security frameworks (NIST, DISA STIG) and incident response.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a mission‑critical environment.
