Structural Steel QA Technician responsible for testing, sampling, and inspecting structural steel, welding, and coatings on state roadways, ensuring compliance with ASTM standards and maintaining rigorous quality documentation.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct field and laboratory testing of structural steel, welds, and protective coatings to verify compliance with ASTM and UDOT specifications.
- Perform sampling, visual inspections, and non‑destructive testing (NDT) techniques, documenting results accurately.
- Analyze test data, identify defects or deviations, and recommend corrective actions to maintain infrastructure safety.
- Prepare detailed inspection reports, maintain quality records, and ensure traceability of all materials and processes.
- Collaborate with engineering, construction, and procurement teams to resolve quality issues and support project schedules.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in welding inspection or structural steel QA preferred.
- Experience with ASTM standards, NDT methods, and quality documentation in a construction or transportation environment.
- Strong analytical skills, meticulous attention to detail, and ability to interpret technical drawings and specifications.
- Excellent communication skills for reporting findings and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
