Staff Python Software Engineer Location: Remote Experience Level: 10+ years professional software engineering experience Employment Type: Full-Time About the Role We’re looking for a Staff Python Software Engineer who thrives on solving tough problems — not just building new features but understanding why systems behave the way they do and how to make them better. You’ll dig into legacy code, untangle complexity, and modernize critical systems while keeping business continuity intact. If you’ve ever looked at an old codebase and thought, “Challenge accepted,” you’ll feel right at home here. What You’ll Do
- Dive deep into existing Python and legacy systems — debug, refactor, and elevate code quality without breaking what works.
- Design and implement scalable backend services and APIs.
- Analyze performance bottlenecks and drive measurable improvements.
- Collaborate across engineering, data, and product teams to modernize architecture and streamline deployments.
- Lead and mentor engineers in problem-solving, debugging, and sustainable design patterns.
- Shape system design decisions and drive modernization efforts with pragmatism and technical rigor.
What You Bring
- 10+ years of software engineering experience , ideally across multiple system generations.
- Expert-level Python skills — you know your way around async, profiling, and clean architecture.
- Experience with extending and embedding the CPython interpreter
- Strong debugging instincts — you don’t guess; you diagnose.
- Experience with refactoring or migrating legacy systems (monolith to modular/microservices).
- Solid understanding of data modeling, APIs, and performance optimization.
- Familiarity with modern cloud environments (AWS, Azure, or GCP) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset — you build trust through clarity and delivery.
Nice to Have
- C++ experience , especially with system-level integrations or bridging legacy components into Python.
- Background in analytics, ETL pipelines, or high-performance data processing.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, observability tooling, and infrastructure-as-code.
- Open-source contributions or a track record of improving developer tooling.
