Backend Engineer
Lead the design and delivery of high‑scale backend services for eBay Live, driving architecture, performance, and reliability using Java, Spring Boot, microservices, and cloud technologies.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Architect, develop, and maintain high‑throughput backend services that power the eBay Live platform.
- Drive technical strategy for microservice design, data modeling, and API contracts across multiple product teams.
- Implement robust, cloud‑native solutions on AWS, including provisioning, monitoring, and automated scaling.
- Collaborate with front‑end, data, and infrastructure engineers to ensure end‑to‑end performance, reliability, and security.
- Mentor senior engineers, conduct code reviews, and champion best practices in CI/CD, testing, and observability.
Requirements
- 10+ years of professional software development experience, with deep expertise in Java and Spring Boot.
- Proven track record designing, building, and operating large‑scale microservice architectures in a cloud environment (AWS preferred).
- Strong knowledge of relational databases (SQL) and event‑driven systems such as Kafka.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), and automated testing frameworks.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills, ability to lead technical discussions, and mentor engineering teams.
