Systems Engineer
Lead the design, implementation and support of enterprise‑grade IT infrastructure, focusing on Linux servers, network services, virtualization and cloud solutions. Drive automation, performance tuning and security across the university’s data centre.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy and maintain Linux‑based servers, ensuring high availability and scalability for academic and research workloads.
- Configure and manage network services (DNS, DHCP, VPN, firewalls) to support campus connectivity and secure remote access.
- Implement and oversee virtualization platforms (VMware, KVM) and cloud services (AWS, Azure) for efficient resource utilization.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts (Bash, Python) for routine tasks, configuration management and monitoring.
- Collaborate with academic staff and IT teams to troubleshoot complex system issues and provide expert guidance.
- Document system architectures, procedures and best practices to support knowledge transfer and compliance.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in systems engineering, with a strong focus on Linux administration.
- Hands‑on experience with networking protocols, virtualization and cloud platforms.
- Proficiency in scripting (Bash, Python) and configuration management tools.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and a proactive approach to system optimisation.
