Spacecraft Electronics Engineer - spire
Software Engineer
Design and integrate custom spacecraft electronics, including PCBAs, RF subsystems, power modules, and sensors, while collaborating with software and mechanical teams to bring next‑generation satellite platforms from concept to production.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed electrical schematics and layout for spacecraft PCB assemblies using Altium Designer or equivalent tools.
- Select, qualify, and integrate off‑the‑shelf and custom components such as sensors, radios, and power converters for space‑qualified performance.
- Collaborate with mechanical and software engineers to ensure seamless interface across hardware, firmware, and structural designs.
- Work with third‑party fabricators and assemblers to manage production, perform design reviews, and resolve last‑minute issues.
- Conduct functional and environmental testing, analyze results, and iterate designs to meet stringent aerospace requirements.
- Support the full product lifecycle from proof‑of‑concept through new product introduction, providing technical guidance and documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field with 3+ years of experience in spacecraft or high‑reliability electronics design.
- Proficiency in PCB design tools (Altium Designer, Mentor Graphics, or similar) and strong understanding of signal integrity, power distribution, and RF routing.
- Hands‑on experience with component selection, qualification, and integration for space environments, including radiation‑hardening and thermal considerations.
- Solid knowledge of embedded systems development, including firmware interfaces and communication protocols (e.g., CAN, UART, SPI, SpaceWire).
- Excellent problem‑solving skills, ability to work under tight schedules, and effective communication with cross‑functional teams and external vendors.
