About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and patch MySQL instances, including minor version upgrades and engine maintenance for on‑premise servers and AWS RDS.
- Perform routine database upkeep such as index optimization, table defragmentation (OPTIMIZE TABLE), and disk‑space management to avoid storage‑full incidents.
- Monitor core database metrics (CPU, memory, connections, I/O) and implement corrective actions to maintain high availability and scalability.
- Analyze slow‑query logs, identify performance bottlenecks, and collaborate with developers to tune SQL statements.
- Document procedures, maintain configuration baselines, and provide on‑call support for database‑related incidents.
Requirements
- 3+ years of hands‑on experience administering MySQL databases in production environments.
- Proficiency with AWS RDS MySQL, including backup, restore, and parameter group management.
- Strong knowledge of SQL query optimization, indexing strategies, and performance‑tuning tools.
- Experience working on Linux/Unix platforms and using shell scripting for automation.
- Ability to troubleshoot and resolve database‑related issues under pressure.
