Lead advanced analytics initiatives as a Senior/Staff Data Scientist, building predictive models and data pipelines using Python, SQL, Spark, and AWS to improve freight operations and safety across a national rail network.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deploy machine‑learning models that optimize routing, asset utilization, and safety monitoring for a large freight rail system.
- Build scalable data pipelines and ETL processes using Apache Spark and AWS services to ingest, clean, and transform high‑volume operational data.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and product teams to translate business problems into analytical solutions and actionable insights.
- Perform statistical analysis and hypothesis testing to evaluate the impact of new technologies and process changes.
- Create clear visualizations and dashboards that communicate findings to technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in data science or advanced analytics, preferably in transportation, logistics, or a related industry.
- Proficiency in Python (pandas, scikit‑learn, PySpark) and strong SQL querying skills.
- Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms, especially AWS (S3, EMR, SageMaker, Lambda).
- Demonstrated ability to develop, evaluate, and productionize machine‑learning models at scale.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and the ability to communicate complex results to diverse audiences.
