Senior/Staff AI Engineer Remote - US - BNSF Railway

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and productionize machine learning and deep learning models that address core rail operations challenges such as predictive maintenance, demand forecasting, and routing optimization.
• Collaborate with data engineers, domain experts, and product teams to define problem statements, gather requirements, and ensure model alignment with business goals.
• Implement scalable AI pipelines on AWS, utilizing services like SageMaker, Lambda, and EMR for training, inference, and monitoring.
• Conduct rigorous model validation, performance tuning, and A/B testing to guarantee reliability and safety in a mission‑critical environment.
• Mentor junior engineers, promote best practices in code quality, version control, and reproducible research.

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional experience building and deploying machine learning or deep learning solutions in production.
• Strong proficiency in Python and experience with frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch.
• Hands‑on experience with cloud platforms, preferably AWS, and containerization/orchestration tools.
• Solid understanding of statistical modeling, data preprocessing, and feature engineering for large‑scale time‑series or sensor data.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills, ability to work independently, and a passion for improving safety and efficiency in transportation systems.
