Epic Games is looking for a Senior Technical Artist with a passion for pushing real-time engine technology and artist workflows. In this role, you’ll join the Unreal Engine Feature Development team, working closely with engineers and product owners to identify and solve difficult problems for Unreal Engine users. Your work will directly impact how artists create content and build immersive experiences across a wide range of industries.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with engineers and product owners to identify, investigate, and solve complex technical art problems within Unreal Engine.
- Develop and implement innovative solutions that improve artist workflows, efficiency, and content quality.
- Serve as a bridge between art and engineering, translating technical limitations and opportunities into practical solutions for artists.
- Create and maintain documentation, best practices, and educational materials for new features and workflows.
- Actively participate in the design, development, and testing of new engine features.
- Provide expert technical art support and guidance to internal and external teams.
- Stay current with industry trends, tools, and technologies to continuously improve our offerings.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a Technical Artist or in a similar role in game development or a related real-time industry.
- Expert-level proficiency with Unreal Engine, including deep knowledge of its rendering pipeline, material editor, and content creation tools.
- Strong understanding of 3D content creation tools such as Maya, Houdini, Substance Designer, Substance Painter, Zbrush, or 3ds Max.
- Proficiency in scripting languages like Python and/or experience with C++ for tool development.
- Proven ability to analyze, diagnose, and optimize real-time content for performance and visual fidelity.
- Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
- A portfolio demonstrating exceptional technical art skills and contributions to shipped projects.
Nice to Have Skills
- Experience with procedural content generation.
- Knowledge of VFX, animation, lighting, or shading within Unreal Engine.
- Familiarity with various asset pipelines and content creation methodologies.
- Experience working in a large-scale engine development environment.
