Epic Games is looking for a Senior Technical Artist to join our team to focus on lighting within our projects. As a Senior Technical Artist, Lighting, you'll be instrumental in developing and maintaining the lighting systems, tools, and pipelines that empower our artists to create breathtaking visual experiences.
What You'll Do
- Collaborate closely with art, engineering, and design teams to define and implement lighting best practices and workflows.
- Develop and maintain lighting pipelines, tools, and scripts to enhance artist productivity and streamline content creation.
- Create and optimize lighting setups, including global illumination, reflections, and shadows, to achieve desired visual targets.
- Research and implement innovative lighting techniques and technologies to push the boundaries of real-time rendering.
- Provide technical support and guidance to artists, troubleshooting lighting issues and offering solutions.
- Develop and maintain documentation for lighting workflows, tools, and best practices.
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in real-time rendering and lighting.
What We're Looking For
- Proven experience as a Technical Artist with a focus on lighting in game development or real-time visualization.
- Expertise in Unreal Engine, particularly with its lighting and rendering features.
- Strong understanding of real-time rendering principles, physically based rendering (PBR), and color science.
- Proficiency in creating and optimizing shaders and materials.
- Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python) for tool development and workflow automation.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams.
- A portfolio demonstrating exceptional lighting work and technical artistry.
Nice to Have Skills
- Experience with other game engines or 3D software (e.g., Maya, Blender).
- Familiarity with visual scripting tools (e.g., Unreal Engine Blueprint).
- Knowledge of performance optimization techniques for real-time lighting.
- Experience with Niagara, Sequencer, or other cinematic tools.
- Familiarity with C++ for engine-level development.
