Systems Engineer
Lead engineering efforts to modernize applications, enforce architectural standards, and reduce technical debt for a mission‑critical U.S. Coast Guard program, leveraging Linux, cloud platforms, and DevOps practices.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance across multiple product teams to ensure consistency, security, and long‑term sustainability of platform solutions.
- Drive application modernization initiatives, including migration to cloud environments, containerization, and automation of deployment pipelines.
- Establish and enforce enterprise standards, best practices, and governance for infrastructure, configuration management, and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD).
- Collaborate with vendors and internal stakeholders to translate complex mission requirements into scalable, secure system designs.
- Identify and remediate technical debt, implementing refactoring strategies and performance optimizations.
Requirements
- 10+ years of systems engineering experience with a focus on Linux/Unix environments and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
- Proven expertise in DevOps tools and practices, including CI/CD pipelines, container orchestration (Kubernetes), and infrastructure‑as‑code (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
- Strong programming/scripting skills, preferably Python, for automation and tooling development.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams, enforce architectural standards, and manage vendor relationships in complex, security‑sensitive projects.
- Clear communication skills and experience translating mission‑critical requirements into practical, scalable solutions.
