Senior Substation Engineer - Transmission System Operations - American Electric Power

Key Responsibilities

• Lead engineering activities for substation and transmission system configuration changes, ensuring alignment with NERC and industry standards.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to develop and implement project plans, schedules, and budgets for grid upgrades and maintenance.
• Utilize SCADA and power system analysis tools to assess system performance, identify risks, and recommend mitigation strategies.
• Prepare detailed technical documentation, including design calculations, test plans, and compliance reports.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and field personnel.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in substation and transmission system engineering.
• In‑depth knowledge of NERC reliability standards and compliance processes.
• Proficiency with SCADA, power flow, and protection coordination software.
• Strong project management skills and ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
