The Solutions Engineer - Senior supports the SEC ISS contract by translating enterprise mission and operational needs into secure, supportable technology solutions. This role leads solution engineering activities across architecture and engineering design, proof-of-concept execution, pilot validation, and technical recommendations aligned to OIT priorities. The position drives data-informed decision-making by producing quantitative analyses of alternatives and clear recommendation packages for SEC stakeholders. The role also supports continuous improvement goals in the PWS by documenting outcomes, risks, and implementation considerations for enterprise infrastructure modernization.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Enterprise Solution Engineering
- Perform day-to-day solution engineering activities to identify technologies that meet SEC enterprise requirements.
- Translate functional, operational, and business requirements into technical solution requirements and design criteria.
- Develop architecture and engineering design approaches that align with SEC infrastructure, security, and operational objectives.
- Collaborate with technical teams and stakeholders to ensure proposed solutions are feasible, scalable, and supportable.
Proof of Concept, Pilots, and Demonstrations
- Plan, execute, and document proof-of-concept efforts to validate candidate technologies.
- Conduct pilots and technical demonstrations to evaluate solution suitability for SEC mission and operational use cases.
- Define success criteria, test scenarios, and evaluation metrics for each PoC/pilot activity.
- Summarize pilot findings, limitations, and implementation readiness for leadership decision support.
Analysis of Alternatives and Recommendations
- Evaluate tradeoffs between competing technical solutions using quantitative, criteria-based methods.
- Build analysis of alternatives (AoA) artifacts that compare cost, risk, performance, security, and operational impact.
- Produce recommendation papers that clearly document methods, alternatives considered, and rationale for selected options.
- Identify follow-on engineering tasks, dependencies, and additional analysis needed before full implementation.
Documentation, Reporting, and Stakeholder Engagement
- Produce clear technical documentation of architecture options, engineering results, pilot outcomes, and recommendations.
- Present findings to SEC stakeholders and governance forums to support informed technology decisions.
- Maintain traceability from requirements through evaluation, recommendation, and next-step actions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement by incorporating lessons learned and updating supporting documentation.
