Senior Product Manager: Recommendations

This is a brand new role within the Personalisation team!

The Personalisation team's mission is to help our audience discover the most personally relevant and valuable content across all BBC digital products.

As a Senior Product Manager, you will be a founding member of a new squad, joining three established squads specializing in recommendations for iPlayer, Sounds, News & Sport. Working alongside talented data scientists, data engineers, and editorial specialists, your mission will be to provide every user with the best of all BBC content, applying techniques from machine learning and AI.

This will likely involve:

• Building recommendations that combine different types of content (video, audio, and text).
• Using data from multiple products to enhance recommendation relevance.
• Exploring new machine-learning approaches that utilize rich metadata and contextual signals.

Ultimately, your work should maximize the value each user gains from every visit to the BBC.

• Prioritization: Focusing on outcomes over output, collaborating with other disciplines to deliver the right solutions to critical customer problems.
• Experimentation: Taking calculated risks and understanding the value of a test-and-learn approach.

You're hired! Are you the right candidate?

• Considerable experience working in a product environment and as a product manager, demonstrating ownership over a data product in a previous role.
• Familiarity with discovery journeys (e.g., search or recommendations) or products utilizing AI/ML (Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning). Please highlight this in your application.
• Successfully launched at least one new customer proposition, from inception to market, in a startup or large-scale business.
• Ability to work backwards from user needs to determine the right things to build.
• Enjoy using data and have experience measuring the impact of your work, likely through experimentation.
