What is the Opportunity?
The Senior Director, AI Risk Governance and Reporting is responsible for defining and embedding AI risk accountability across Royal Bank of Canada, ensuring consistent governance, risk management, and regulatory compliance across all business units, functions, Technology & Operations, and the AI Group. This role is critical to establishing clear standards, guardrails, and decision-making forums that enable the organization to scale AI safely, responsibly, and in compliance with regulatory requirements while maintaining alignment with RBC's risk appetite.
What will you do?
1. AI Risk Accountability & Framework Development
Define enterprise-wide AI risk accountability mechanisms, develop comprehensive governance frameworks, and establish clear risk standards and guardrails that embed risk ownership at all organizational levels across business units, functions, Technology & Operations, and the AI Group.
Enable business segments and functions to own and manage AI deployment risks while maintaining transparent communication of AI risk responsibilities to senior leadership across the enterprise.
2. Governance Forums & Decision-Making
Create and oversee governance structures with senior leaders that facilitate cross-functional collaboration and decision-making on AI risk matters, with visibility on escalation, mitigation, and strategic trade-offs.
Foster a risk-aware decision-making culture that actively enables business growth and innovation while maintaining transparency across the organization.
3. Risk Reporting & Transparency
Develop dashboards, metrics, and reporting tools that provide transparency on RBC's AI risk profile and communicate AI risk exposure to management and the Board.
Ensure risk reporting reflects key risk indicators, emerging risks, control effectiveness, and regularly communicates management's actions to maintain the organization's risk profile within established risk appetite.
4. Audit & Regulatory Response Leadership
Direct the team responsible for audit preparation, regulatory compliance, and examination support, ensuring timely and thorough responses to audit findings and regulatory inquiries related to AI risk management.
Collaborate with Internal Audit, Compliance, and external regulators to demonstrate effective AI risk governance and maintain regulatory alignment.
5. Team Leadership & Development
Lead the AI risk governance team, foster a culture of risk ownership and accountability, and support team development through coaching and managing growth opportunities.
Deliver strategic guidance on AI risk governance and management topics to senior leaders across the enterprise.
