ClickSend is business communications software, enabling companies of all shapes and sizes to easily send and receive SMS, MMS, Rich Media, Email, Voice and even Post worldwide via our very intuitive web app, much loved API docs and thousands of integration partners. ClickSend has SMS at its core and powers billions of messages worldwide but has expanded to offer a richer suite of products, providing choice and context to business communications. ClickSend is a SaaS product (well, more a CPaaS) focused on the SMB sector and has thousands of new customers sign up to its platform each month, and it’s growing year on year. ClickSend is a global company, part of the Sinch Group with a strong foothold in Australia/NZ, USA/Canada and UK/Europe, but is used, and loved, by businesses all around the world.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you’ll join one of our product engineering squads and help ClickSend build our exciting new modern messaging platform. As a Senior Engineer, you’ll provide deep technical leadership within and beyond your team, ensuring and growing the teams to deliver high quality solutions to our customers continuously and rapidly.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and direction to enable the team to ship secure, reliable, well-tested, and maintainable code to our customers
• Take initiative to mentor and upskill colleagues through constructive feedback during code reviews, architectural decisions, and non-functional concerns including security, privacy, and performance
• Help drive the direction and priorities of the team, actively seeking ways to better support stakeholders and break down work effectively
• Recognised as a leader and clear expert in technical areas and components owned by the team
• Be a strong role model who demonstrates collaboration, accountability, and technical excellence
• Lead end-to-end delivery of work — from technical design and architecture through to production deployment and support
• Independently architect and deliver complex, scalable solutions across a wide variety of situations
• Champion quality within the team and establish processes to improve it over time

The successful applicant will possess the following skills and attributes

• Minimum 7 years of software engineering experience with a proven track record of shipping and maintaining production software
• At least 3 years of recent, hands-on experience with NodeJS and TypeScript
• Strong knowledge of backend ecosystems including SQL/NoSQL databases, messaging brokers (e.g., SQS, RabbitMQ), and common software design patterns
• Proven AWS expertise across core services including ECS/Fargate, Lambda, EC2 DynamoDB/RDS/Aurora, SQS/SNS/Kinesis etc
• Hands-on experience architecting end-to-end systems — translating business requirements into full technica
