Backend Engineer
Lead the design and scaling of a FHIR‑based provider directory, building robust APIs, data pipelines, and cloud services to power a nationwide health data platform.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Architect and develop high‑throughput REST/GraphQL services that ingest, transform, and expose provider data using FHIR standards.
- Design and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL workflows on AWS (Lambda, Step Functions, S3, DynamoDB).
- Collaborate with data scientists and product teams to expose analytics endpoints and support real‑time personalization.
- Implement rigorous testing, CI/CD, and observability (CloudWatch, Prometheus) to ensure reliability and performance.
- Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and drive best practices in security, documentation, and API design.
Requirements
- 5+ years of backend development experience, preferably in healthcare or data‑intensive domains.
- Proficiency in Python or Node.js with strong knowledge of asynchronous programming.
- Hands‑on experience with FHIR, HL7, and related healthcare data standards.
- Deep understanding of AWS services, relational and NoSQL databases, and microservices architecture.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills, strong communication, and a passion for building mission‑critical systems.
