Senior Applied ML Scientist - Driving Understanding & Evaluation - Waymo

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement rigorous experiments to evaluate perception, planning, and control models in real‑world driving scenarios.
• Develop novel metrics and diagnostic tools to quantify model performance, robustness, and safety.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate ML insights into the autonomous driving stack.
• Publish findings in internal reports and external conferences, ensuring reproducibility and transparency.
• Mentor junior scientists and engineers on best practices in ML research and data science.

Requirements

• Ph.D. or Master’s in Computer Science, Machine Learning, or related field with 5+ years of industry experience.
• Proficiency in Python, TensorFlow/PyTorch, and large‑scale data processing.
• Deep understanding of autonomous driving challenges, including perception, planning, and control.
• Strong statistical background and experience with model evaluation, bias detection, and uncertainty quantification.
• Excellent communication skills and a track record of publishing research.
