Sundaram Clayton USA is seeking a Robotics Controls Engineer to support and improve automation systems within our aluminum die casting manufacturing facility. This position is responsible for programming, troubleshooting, maintaining, and optimizing industrial robots, PLCs, HMIs, and automated production equipment. The Robotics Controls Engineer will work closely with production, maintenance, and engineering teams to improve equipment reliability, increase efficiency, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
Essential Responsibilities
- Program, troubleshoot, and maintain industrial robots and automation systems.
- Develop, modify, and support PLC programs and control systems.
- Configure and maintain HMI applications and operator interfaces.
- Troubleshoot electrical, controls, robotic, and automation-related issues.
- Support production by responding to equipment downtime and implementing corrective actions.
- Improve machine performance, cycle times, and overall equipment reliability.
- Assist with installation, startup, and commissioning of new automation equipment.
- Maintain robotics, controls, and electrical documentation.
- Support preventive and predictive maintenance activities.
- Work with engineering and production teams to implement process improvements.
- Ensure all automation systems comply with safety standards and company policies.
- Train maintenance technicians and operators on automation and controls systems as needed.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Automation Engineering, or related field; or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience with industrial automation, controls, or robotics.
- Experience programming and troubleshooting PLC systems.
- Experience with HMI development and support.
- Knowledge of industrial electrical systems and control panels.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and technical drawings.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with FANUC robots.
- Experience with Allen-Bradley PLCs and HMIs.
- Experience in automotive, die casting, or high-volume manufacturing environments.
- Knowledge of servo drives, variable frequency drives, and motion control systems.
- Experience with industrial networking and communications protocols.
- Project management and equipment commissioning experience.
- Knowledge of safety circuits, machine guarding, and risk assessments.
