Research Scientist
Samsung is seeking a Research Scientist for its Machine Learning and Data Intelligence lab in Cambridge. This role involves advancing core ML and AI research, contributing to ground-breaking ideas, and demonstrating them through publications and prototypes. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in machine learning, computer vision, or NLP, with experience in Python and GNU Linux.
Samsung is the global leader in consumer electronics and the core components that go into them. Samsung is on a mission to embed AI within all these devices and invent the next generation of consumer products enabled by AI. In 2018, Samsung established seven new AI labs, including one in Cambridge, which performs world-class blue-sky AI research with an open and collaborative approach to science. The lab publishes its results in top scientific venues and releases open-source code and datasets. Technology developed in-house has been successfully transferred to consumers, with techniques and AI models used by millions worldwide on platforms such as the Galaxy smartphone.
Current scientific interests of the Cambridge lab include video understanding, AutoML, action recognition, robotics and planning, neuro-symbolic models, meta-learning, domain adaptation, foundation models, on-device AI, unsupervised and self-supervised learning, efficient reasoning, speech recognition and audio modelling, and federated learning.
Machine Learning and Data Intelligence (MLDI) is one of three research programmes at the Cambridge center. The lab conducts research at the intersection of machine learning, reasoning, and applications including computer vision, on-device and distributed learning, and robotic AI systems. The group has world-leading expertise in meta-learning, Bayesian neural networks, representation learning, and neuro-symbolic learning. Their research outcomes are recognized through multiple papers in top-tier conferences/journals, patents, and tech transfers.
The Machine Learning and Data Intelligence lab in SAIC-Cambridge is looking for a Research Scientist to join the team. You will work directly with research scientists, ML engineers, and interns of diverse skill sets, supporting research efforts in areas such as meta-learning, representation learning for robotics, vision and language, learning for communications and federated learning, and neuro-symbolic learning. You will be responsible for advancing the underpinning machine learning and data intelligence research agenda within SAIC-Cambridge and bringing your expertise to impact SAIC-C application areas of vision, language, robotics, and more. As part of the group, you will contribute to developing and implementing ground-breaking research ideas, demonstrating them through top-tier academic publications, patents, and proof-of-concept demonstrators.
To this end, they are searching for a candidate with profound knowledge of machine learning and/or associated disciplines of computer vision, NLP, and so on; and the ambition to pursue truly transformative ideas with the potential for substantial impact.
