Relief Chief Engineer - BC Ferries

Key Responsibilities

• Ensure safe, efficient, and cost‑effective operation of propulsion and power systems aboard the vessel.
• Monitor, maintain, and document all mechanical and electrical equipment, ensuring compliance with regulatory and company standards.
• Lead troubleshooting efforts, diagnosing and resolving complex engineering issues to minimize downtime.
• Collaborate with the Senior Chief Engineer and crew to plan and execute preventive maintenance schedules.
• Prepare detailed reports and logs for shipboard operations, maintenance activities, and incident investigations.

Requirements

• Proven experience in marine propulsion and power system management.
• Strong knowledge of vessel maintenance practices, safety regulations, and engineering documentation.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to work under pressure.
• Effective communication and teamwork abilities in a dynamic shipboard environment.
