Radar Systems Engineer - Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and test radar hardware and signal‑processing algorithms for surface‑ship and land‑based missile‑defense sensors.
• Perform high‑fidelity modeling and simulation of radar performance in complex operational environments.
• Develop and maintain software tools and data pipelines using MATLAB, Python, and C++ to support analysis, verification, and validation.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams—including physicists, data scientists, and systems engineers—to integrate radar subsystems into larger defense platforms.
• Generate technical documentation, test reports, and presentations for stakeholders and program managers.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s or higher in Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field with at least one year of radar systems experience.
• Proficiency in signal‑processing techniques and hands‑on experience with MATLAB and Python for algorithm development.
• Strong programming skills in C++ and familiarity with real‑time embedded systems.
• Experience with modeling and simulation tools for radar performance assessment.
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities and effective communication within collaborative, multidisciplinary teams.
