Engineering Manager
Lead a high‑performing engineering team responsible for designing, building, and operating GitHub's workforce and production Identity & Access Management platform, leveraging OAuth, SAML, OpenID Connect and AWS security services.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute the technical roadmap for the Identity & Access Management platform supporting GitHub's global workforce and production services.
- Lead, mentor, and grow a team of senior engineers, fostering a culture of security‑first development and continuous improvement.
- Architect and implement authentication and authorization solutions using OAuth, SAML, OpenID Connect, and AWS security services.
- Collaborate with product, security, and infrastructure partners to ensure compliance, scalability, and high availability of IAM services.
- Drive incident response, root‑cause analysis, and post‑mortem processes for identity‑related outages.
Requirements
- 10+ years of software engineering experience with at least 5 years in a leadership role building large‑scale IAM systems.
- Deep expertise in authentication protocols (OAuth, SAML, OpenID Connect) and cloud security platforms, preferably AWS.
- Proven track record of delivering secure, highly available services in a fast‑moving, SaaS environment.
- Strong communication skills to influence cross‑functional stakeholders and translate security requirements into actionable engineering plans.
- Bachelor’s or higher degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
