Systems Engineer
Lead on‑site management of lab infrastructure, ensuring secure, high‑availability environments for vulnerability research. Leverage Linux, Windows Server, networking, and scripting to maintain physical and virtual assets, support research teams, and drive continuous improvement.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and maintain physical lab equipment, servers, and network devices in the Baltimore area, ensuring 24/7 uptime and security compliance.
- Configure, monitor, and troubleshoot Linux and Windows Server environments, including patch management, performance tuning, and backup strategies.
- Implement and enforce network security controls, firewall rules, and access policies to protect research data and infrastructure.
- Automate routine tasks using Bash or PowerShell scripts, and develop tools to streamline lab operations and data collection.
- Collaborate with research teams to provision virtual machines, containers, and cloud resources (e.g., AWS) for testing and analysis.
- Document system configurations, procedures, and incident responses; maintain an up‑to‑date inventory of hardware and software assets.
Requirements
- 3+ years of systems administration experience in a research or security lab environment.
- Solid understanding of networking concepts, firewalls, and VPNs.
- Experience with virtualization (VMware, Hyper‑V) and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure).
- Strong scripting skills in Bash or PowerShell; familiarity with Python is a plus.
