Software Engineer
Mechanical Engineer I/II supporting defense projects at NSWC Crane, applying CAD, FEA, and manufacturing expertise to design, analyze, and improve steel components while ensuring compliance with defense quality and safety standards.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies using CAD tools, ensuring functional performance and manufacturability.
- Conduct finite element analysis (FEA) to validate structural integrity and optimize designs for weight, cost, and durability.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define requirements, resolve design issues, and integrate solutions into larger systems.
- Prepare detailed engineering drawings, specifications, and documentation for production and quality control.
- Participate in prototype testing, failure analysis, and continuous improvement initiatives to meet defense program objectives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- Proficiency in CAD (SolidWorks, CATIA, or similar) and FEA (ANSYS, Abaqus).
- Experience with manufacturing processes such as machining, welding, and additive manufacturing.
- Strong understanding of defense quality standards (MIL‑STD, ISO 9001) and documentation practices.
- Excellent communication, teamwork, and problem‑solving skills.
