Software Engineer
Lead engineering role driving Customer Access Studies, designing and executing data‑intensive analyses of grid access, market participation, and reliability using Python, SQL and advanced statistical modeling techniques.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain analytical models and tools to evaluate customer access to the Alberta Interconnected Electric System.
- Lead end‑to‑end data pipelines, including extraction, transformation, and loading of large datasets from market, operational, and GIS sources.
- Perform statistical and probabilistic analyses to assess impacts of new entrants, transmission constraints, and market rules on system reliability and economics.
- Collaborate with market participants, regulators, and internal stakeholders to translate technical findings into actionable recommendations and reports.
- Mentor junior engineers, review code and methodology, and ensure best practices in reproducibility and documentation.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or higher in Electrical Engineering, Energy Systems, Computer Science, or a related field with 7+ years of experience in power‑system analysis or energy market modeling.
- Proficiency in Python (pandas, NumPy, SciPy) and SQL for data manipulation and analysis.
- Strong background in statistical modeling, forecasting, and data‑visualization techniques.
- Experience with power‑system simulation tools or market analysis platforms (e.g., PowerWorld, PSS®E, MATLAB).
- Excellent communication skills and proven ability to lead cross‑functional technical projects.
