Subject Matter Expert providing advanced engineering support for Low‑Activity Waste, Bulk Oxide Facility, and laboratory operations, leveraging process and chemical engineering expertise within DOE waste treatment projects.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert engineering guidance for Low‑Activity Waste (LAW), Bulk Oxide Facility (BOF), and laboratory processes supporting the Waste Treatment and Immobilization Project.
- Develop, review, and validate process designs, safety analyses, and technical specifications to ensure compliance with DOE and environmental regulations.
- Lead technical reviews, risk assessments (HAZOP, FMEA), and root‑cause investigations for process upsets and equipment performance.
- Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, contractors, and regulatory bodies to integrate engineering solutions and maintain project schedule and budget.
- Prepare and present technical reports, status updates, and recommendations to senior leadership and stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Mechanical, or Nuclear Engineering (Master’s preferred) with extensive experience in waste treatment or related process engineering.
- Demonstrated expertise in LAW and BOF processes, laboratory operations, and compliance with DOE, NRC, and EPA regulations.
- Strong analytical skills with experience conducting HAZOP, FMEA, and other risk assessments.
- Proven ability to lead technical teams, manage complex projects, and communicate technical information effectively.
- U.S. citizenship and ability to obtain required security clearances.
