Systems Engineer
Undergraduate student will support daily IT operations, handling hardware, software, and network issues while assisting senior staff with system administration, scripting, and documentation in a research environment.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Provide first‑line technical support for Windows and Linux workstations, diagnosing hardware and software problems.
- Assist with network troubleshooting, including connectivity, VPN, and Wi‑Fi issues.
- Maintain user accounts, groups, and permissions in Active Directory and related identity services.
- Create and update documentation, standard operating procedures, and knowledge‑base articles.
- Develop and run automation scripts (Python, Bash) to streamline routine tasks and system monitoring.
- Support virtualization platforms (VMware/Hyper‑V) by provisioning, configuring, and troubleshooting virtual machines.
Requirements
- Currently enrolled undergraduate student in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Hands‑on experience with Windows and Linux operating systems.
- Familiarity with networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP) and basic troubleshooting.
- Proficiency in at least one scripting language (Python, Bash, PowerShell).
- Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a research‑focused team.
