Security Engineer
Lead the protection of critical IT assets for a National Guard unit, applying advanced cybersecurity practices, incident response, and risk management to safeguard information systems and ensure compliance with federal standards.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain security controls across the organization’s network, servers, and endpoints.
- Conduct vulnerability assessments, penetration tests, and threat modeling to identify and remediate security gaps.
- Lead incident response efforts, including investigation, containment, eradication, and recovery of security incidents.
- Develop and enforce security policies, procedures, and compliance frameworks aligned with NIST, DoD, and other relevant standards.
- Collaborate with IT, operations, and leadership to integrate security into all phases of system development and deployment.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of hands‑on cybersecurity experience in a defense or government environment.
- Proficiency with security tools such as SIEM, IDS/IPS, firewalls, and endpoint protection platforms.
- Strong knowledge of network protocols, operating systems, and secure architecture principles.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to train and mentor junior staff.
