Software Engineer
Provide comprehensive IT support and infrastructure management for the Acoustics Department, handling Windows/Linux servers, network devices, virtualization, and security while delivering timely user assistance and system maintenance.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Install, configure, and maintain Windows Server and Linux systems supporting scientific and operational applications.
- Manage network infrastructure, including switches, routers, firewalls, and VPN connections, ensuring reliable connectivity for the department.
- Deploy and administer virtual environments (VMware or Hyper‑V) to host mission‑critical workloads.
- Provide Tier‑1/2 help‑desk support, troubleshoot hardware/software issues, and resolve user tickets promptly.
- Implement security best practices, perform vulnerability assessments, and apply patches to safeguard data and systems.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts (PowerShell, Bash) to streamline routine tasks and improve system efficiency.
Requirements
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 2+ years of hands‑on experience with Windows Server, Linux administration, and network device configuration.
- Proficiency in virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper‑V) and scripting languages such as PowerShell or Bash.
- Fundamental knowledge of cybersecurity principles, patch management, and incident response.
- Strong problem‑solving skills, ability to work independently, and excellent communication for user support.
