Systems Engineer
Lead information security and system administration for a large federal installation, overseeing security planning, implementation, and maintenance of network and server environments using industry best practices and compliance standards.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain comprehensive security plans, policies, and procedures for the installation’s network and server infrastructure.
- Serve as the primary Information Systems Security Officer (ISSO), coordinating security activities across all phases of system lifecycle—installation, testing, modification, upgrade, operation, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- Conduct regular security assessments, vulnerability scans, and penetration tests to identify and remediate risks.
- Implement and manage security controls, including firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention systems, and access management solutions.
- Collaborate with IT, operations, and compliance teams to ensure adherence to federal security standards and regulations.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or related field, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in information security and system administration within a complex, regulated environment.
- Strong knowledge of network security technologies, operating systems (Windows, Linux), and security frameworks (NIST, DISA STIG).
- Experience with security assessment tools, vulnerability management, and incident response.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
