Security Engineer
Provides security administration and liaison support for the Customer and Automotive Records System, developing security plans, managing access, conducting risk assessments, and promoting security awareness across the department.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain information system security plans in accordance with the Michigan Security Accreditation Process.
- Act as the primary security liaison for bureaus, offices, and divisions, providing guidance on security policies, procedures, and best practices.
- Conduct risk assessments, vulnerability analyses, and data classification activities to identify and mitigate security threats.
- Manage user access controls, including provisioning, de‑provisioning, and periodic access reviews.
- Lead security awareness initiatives, delivering training and communications to promote a security‑focused culture.
- Monitor compliance with federal, state, and agency security standards and recommend corrective actions.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years of experience in information security administration, risk assessment, or access management.
- Strong knowledge of security frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27001, and the Michigan Security Accreditation Process.
- Experience developing security plans, conducting vulnerability assessments, and implementing data classification schemes.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder‑management skills, with the ability to translate technical security concepts for non‑technical audiences.
