Engineer
We're hiring our first in-house Industrial Design Engineer (Hardware): full-time, at our Amsterdam Office. You'll take our machine modules all the way from concept sketch to a product that is built in series: design, engineering in CAD, prototyping, design for manufacturing, and supplier handover. You'll start with the e-mannequin, our core module, and make the next machine the first one that looks like a finished product. You'll work next to the live machine and our software team, and with our external engineering partner. As theteam grows, you'll lead projects and coach engineering interns.
What you'll work on
• Industrial design of the machine: the look and feel, operator ergonomics and VNYX brand identity
across stations, so the next version looks like a finished product.
• E-mannequin: foldable shoulders, continuous 360° rotation, a pedestal low enough for long dresses,
and one body that fits a wide range of sizes. Includes a standalone and travel version for trade shows
such as CES in January.
• Size measurement: fixtures and sensor placement for measuring garments on the mannequin and waist
size on the hanger, working with the hardware and software teams.
• Photo rig and lighting: a fixed camera mount around a standard smartphone camera (Google Pixel),
with fixed lighting, angles and distances, built to be copied across many machines.
• Hanger and transport: hanger design changes so it also takes jeans and accessories, an RFID or QR
scan before items enter the line, and weighing on the line, working with our hanger supplier.
• Label station and operator screens: a foot-pedal workflow, a material scanner (near-infrared, or NIR),
and touch screens at each step.
• Assisted dressing: one operator dressing two mannequins, plus an automatic feed of the next garment.
This is our biggest speed gain.
• Design for manufacturing: choosing materials and production processes, writing technical drawings
and specs, getting supplier quotes and supporting small production runs.
What you bring
• A Bachelor's (ing.) or MSc in Industrial Design Engineering or Industrial Product Design (for example TU
Delft, TU Eindhoven, Hogeschool Rotterdam or The Hague University of Applied Sciences), or in
Mechanical Engineering.
• 3–8 years taking physical products from concept to production, at a product design and engineering
agency or in an in-house R&D team.
• Strong SolidWorks (or a similar CAD tool): parts, assemblies, technical drawings and tolerances.
• Design for manufacturing and assembly: sheet metal, machining, injection moulding, 3D printing,
aluminium profiles, and choosing the right material and process.
• Hands-on prototyping: you build, test and iterate your own models in a workshop.
• Integrated design thinking: combining mechanics, electronics, operator use and appearance in one
product.
VNYX · Industrial Design Engineer (Hardware) | 1
• Ownership of your own projects: planning, budget and supplier contact.
• Clear visual communication: sketches, renders and presentations (Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator,
InDesign or similar).
• Fluent English; Dutch is a strong plus. Right to work in the Netherlands.
Nice to have
• Design of industrial machines or professional equipment (production machines, control rooms,
professional appliances).
• Lighting design, or camera and lighting setups for product photography.
• Electromechanics: motors, sensors, wiring, Raspberry Pi or Arduino.
• Garment handling, textiles or retail automation (hanging-garment conveyors, folding machines,
mannequins).
• Machine safety and CE marking.
• Sustainable and circular product design, which suits a resale business.
How we work and what we offer
• Two-week sprints, on the same cadence as the software team. Every module is judged on manual
seconds per item, items per hour, uptime and picture acceptance.
• We buy before we design: off-the-shelf parts wherever they do the job.
• A small, senior team where your work goes straight onto a production machine.
• Your own workshop space and test rig next to the live line in Amsterdam.
• Competitive salary and an employee option plan (ESOP).
• The chance to build and lead the in-house hardware team as we scale up to multiple production lines in
2027.
