Architect and engineer secure, high‑performance healthcare databases on AWS, ensuring HIPAA compliance while modeling complex clinical workflows and optimizing data pipelines.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Design, model, and implement scalable relational databases (PostgreSQL) for storing Protected Health Information (PHI) with strict security controls.
- Develop and maintain ETL pipelines using SQL and Python to ingest, transform, and load clinical data from diverse sources.
- Collaborate with data scientists and application teams to translate business requirements into efficient data structures and queries.
- Implement performance tuning, indexing, and query optimization to meet low‑latency access demands.
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory standards through encryption, access controls, and audit logging.
- Monitor database health, conduct capacity planning, and automate backups and disaster recovery procedures on AWS.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience designing and managing production databases in a healthcare or regulated environment.
- Proficiency in SQL, PostgreSQL, and data modeling best practices.
- Hands‑on experience with AWS services (RDS, Aurora, S3, IAM) and security features.
- Strong understanding of ETL processes, Python scripting, and data integration tools.
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and experience implementing security controls for PHI.
