About the Role
The Marketing Operations team at Toast is seeking a GTM Engineer, AI Innovation. This role will be embedded directly within marketing teams to build AI-powered agents, automations, and workflows that fundamentally transform how marketers operate. You will collaborate closely with the teams you support, with success measured by the number of transformed workflows and teams achieving self-sufficiency in AI integration. This position is open to remote candidates.
Responsibilities
- Identify high-leverage marketing workflows and develop practical solutions, including agents, automations, and AI-powered tools, customized for each team's processes.
- Design, construct, and deploy custom AI agents and agentic workflows that integrate AI APIs, MCP servers, and automation platforms into the Go-To-Market motion.
- Establish evaluation frameworks to assess agent quality, accuracy, and reliability, encompassing prompt evaluations, agent benchmarking, and regression testing.
- Guide marketers through a phased AI adoption journey, from initial successes to regular integration, full workflow transformation, and ultimately self-sufficiency.
- Recognize and scale effective patterns, focusing on reusable systems rather than one-off solutions.
- Manage build-vs-buy decisions from business case development through to implementation.
- Prepare teams for an agentic future by designing, building, and overseeing multi-agent workflows.
- Produce documentation, playbooks, and reusable templates for team-wide leverage.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in growth marketing, product management, systems, or operations, with a minimum of 2 years in GTM Engineering, AI Engineering, or Solutions Engineering.
- Agent building: Demonstrated experience in designing, building, and deploying AI agents and agentic workflows that have genuinely transformed work, emphasizing hands-on building with AI.
- Evaluations: Experience in developing evaluation frameworks for AI systems, including prompt evaluations, output quality scoring, agent benchmarking, and testing against ground truth or human baselines.
- Fine-tuning: Practical experience fine-tuning language models for production use cases.
- Possess a builder mindset, prioritizing shipping a working Proof of Concept over presenting theoretical possibilities.
- A strong communicator capable of translating technical concepts for non-technical audiences and coaching diverse learners.
- Proven track record of empowering others to implement lasting changes in their work methods.
- Exhibits a growth ownership mindset, executing tasks end-to-end without constant supervision.
- Hands-on experience with AI APIs and agent frameworks (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic/Claude, Gemini, LangChain, CrewAI, RAG, MCP).
- Demonstrated experience with Clay.
- Familiarity with martech stacks, including automation tools, CDPs, CRMs, and data warehouses.
Nice to Haves
- Working knowledge of web services APIs and cloud services (AWS, GCP or Azure).
- Experience with scripting languages such as Python and JavaScript, including a basic understanding of common syntax, ability to interact with generative coding models, and debug API integrations.
