Software Engineer
Entry‑level engineering technicians support Louisiana's Traffic Monitoring Program by collecting, processing, and maintaining roadway traffic data for planning, funding, and safety analysis using GIS and data‑management tools.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Collect field traffic data using pneumatic tubes, video counters, and portable sensors across state highways.
- Enter, validate, and maintain traffic datasets in GIS and database systems.
- Generate routine reports and visualizations for transportation planners and funding agencies.
- Assist with calibration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of traffic‑monitoring equipment.
- Coordinate with field crews to ensure data quality and compliance with state guidelines.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree in civil engineering technology, transportation, or related field preferred.
- Experience or coursework in traffic data collection, GIS, or surveying equipment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and basic data‑analysis techniques.
- Ability to work outdoors in varied weather conditions and follow safety protocols.
- Strong communication skills and attention to detail.
