Software Engineer
Designs and implements accessible digital experiences for university platforms, ensuring compliance with WCAG and Section 508 while collaborating with developers, designers, and stakeholders to embed inclusive UX practices.
About the role
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and maintenance of accessibility strategies for web and mobile applications across the university.
- Conduct comprehensive accessibility audits, remediation, and testing using tools such as Axe, JAWS, and NVDA.
- Collaborate with UI/UX designers, developers, and content creators to embed WCAG 2.2 and Section 508 requirements into design and development workflows.
- Create and deliver training, guidelines, and documentation to promote inclusive design practices campus‑wide.
- Stay current with emerging accessibility standards, assistive technologies, and best practices, advising leadership on policy and compliance.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in digital accessibility, UX design, or related fields, with a proven track record of achieving WCAG compliance.
- Strong knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, and how they interact with ARIA roles and properties.
- Hands‑on experience using accessibility testing tools and conducting manual testing with screen readers.
- Excellent communication skills to translate technical accessibility concepts for diverse audiences.
- Bachelor’s degree in Human‑Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or a related discipline (or equivalent experience).
